Speedway Rules 



Amended January 15, 2014

  2014 Sportsman Division  

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. 

These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.   NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

 The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.


Chassis/Base Weight:

1. Cars must utilize a street-type American made chassis (1965 or newer). 105” min wheelbase.
2. 3100 lbs. base weight minimum at all times, including after race with driver (no refueling after race). Max left side weight  is 57.0% at all times.
3. Races longer than 50 laps will have a 1 lb per lap over 50 laps allowance
4. Cars must utilize factory frame sections from the front steering box mount to rear of rear spring pocket. No widening of the frame in any way. The cross member must remain the OEM stock component and in OEM location but may be modified for oil pan or fuel pump clearance. Weight Jacks OK. Leaf Spring cars must  have prior tech approval for rear suspension chassis construction.
5. Roll cages must not be offset and must be perimeter type. Installation is subject to technical approval. The width of the top roll cage bars (halo) must be a min. of 75% of the width of frame rails where the cage attaches. The cage must go straight up the doors before a slight angle into the roofline. Side plate on driver's door  must be used and must be a minimum of 12" high, post to post, 1/4" thick and either be welded to the cage or fastened with six 1/2" bolts. A min. of 3 windshield protection bars (min. 1/4" wide round stock) in front of driver are mandatory.
6. No cage or body support may run through the body or windshield.


Transmission:

1. Standard Automatic transmissions w/ working torque converter... or an OEM manual transmission and min. 7.25” clutch.
2. An aftermarket transmission with a 7.25" external clutch may be used with 75 pound penalty.
3. Clutch must follow Super Series rules, and must be a min. of 7.25".
4. All transmissions must have working reverse gear.
5. Drive shaft loop required.


Suspension:

1. No Bump-Stops or suspension tn travel limiting devices. No coil binding.
2. No aftermarket lower A-Frames (O. E. M. mounting towers only).
3. No aftermarket or made for racing spindles Must be OEM style spindle.
4. Standard aftermarket upper A-Frames may be used with a 35 lbs penalty (O.E.M. mounting towers only).
5. No aftermarket trailing arms (Single, non adjustable chassis mounting point only).
6. 3-links allowed but must get approval of links. Weight may be added at track.
7. One shock per wheel. Shock must be steel, economy-type, may not be externally adjustable and may not be gas re-chargeable.
    SHOCKS MUST ALSO BE ON A SERIES APPROVED LIST TO BE LEGAL!!! LIST IS PUBLISHED AT CRA-RACING.COM.
8. Ford 9 inch rear ends OK. No Quick-change rear ends.
9. Max 78" tread width from outside to outside of tire at spindle height.
10.Stick-type, steel brake calipers only. Brake caliper may not be of a floating design and must be mounted solidly to rear end housing. Must have working brakes on all four wheels.
11. Stock-type sway bars only. Maximum 1.25" diameter and must be mounted, on the chassis side, forward of the steering box.
12. Maximum 8" wide steel wheels only.
13. KMS Towel City Recaps Only
14. No soaking tires permitted. 


 Engine:

1. Engine must be cast iron (block & heads). No Dry Sumps.
2. Use of Roller Cams/Lifters is discouraged and therefore any team NOT using them may deduct 50 lbs.
3. Heads must be standard valve angle.  No shaft mounted rockers.
4. Aluminum intake may be used with a 50 pound penalty.
5. Headers may be used with a 25 pound penalty (no 180's). 
6. Engines under 365 c.i. may deduct 50 lbs.
7. Engines over 412 c.i. must add 50 lbs.
8. Engine must be located so the spark plug of forward most cylinder is no further back than 1 inch of center-line of the upper ball joints.
9. Exhaust must exit behind the driver and beneath car of under frame. 
10. Two of Four barrel carburetors only, but NO dual-line, rear metering block, or double-pump carburetors. No demon carbs.  one spacer plate or adapter not to exceed 1 1/4 inches with gaskets.


Body:

 1. No compact or sub compact bodies. Standard Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo, Regal, Cutlass, and older Camaro bodies allowed as well as their Ford and Dodge counterparts. 

2. Aftermarket bodies allowed.
3. A stock floor pan is required. An aftermarket firewall may be used, but must be steel and similar gauge of the replaced stock firewall.
4. Aftermarket bumper covers must cover all bumpers and brace supports and all metal must be behind and covered by the cover. Must run a stock-type bumper if no bumper-over is used. Rear bumper/tail-light area must be enclosed (no open tail sections).
5. Nose-piece must be mounted with stock body line in mind. Nose-piece should not be chopped, lowered, or angled.
6. Rooflines must have stock appearance ("Chopped Roofs" may result in additional weight penalty).
7. Minimum roof height with standard roof rake is 48 inches.
8. Body, exhaust, rocker panels or any other mounted items must be no closer to the ground than 4 inches. 

9. Rub rails may only be used if they are polycarbonate.  



2014 Street Stock Division

Car Requirements:

Minimum wheel base 108”
Frames must be OEM.  No boxing or bending to alter frame.
No x-ing frame underneath period.
Engine must be centered on chasis side to side.  Engine must be in stock location.
Aftermarket bumper covers must cover all bumpers and brace supports and all metal must be behind and covered by the cover.  Must run a stock-type bumper if no bumper cover is used.  Rear bumper/tail light area must be enclosed (no open tail sections).
Must remove all glass and flammable material from the car.
Leaf spring cars must retain all stock frames front to rear and cannot connect frame rail underneath car.
No altering frame in any way.
Frame must remain stock, unaltered.  No cutting frame as for to shorten or widen frame.
Racing belts and window nets are mandatory.
 Racing seat and fuel cells are mandatory.
Cars cannot be any lower than 6” at any 4 corners of the car with driver in car.
Car and driver must weigh 3400 lbs after feature.
55% left side weight max.
All cars must have a 4 point roll cage in the car with 4 door bars on driver’s side and 3 on passenger side. Bars can run thru front and rear.
No radios allowed.
No antifreeze allowed.  A $100 penalty if caught using antifreeze.


LEAD: ALL WEIGHT:

(lead) must be mounted with a minimum of two (2) 1/2 inch bolts. All weights

are to be painted white with the car # painted on each piece. Any driver that
looses any lead from his car will be fined $250 payable prior to any further
competition. This rule is in effect during race day or practice days.


Suspension:

Factory OEM lower front control arms only.  All A-frames upper and lower must remain stock for that make and model car and must mount in unaltered stock location.
Non adjustable replacement ball joints only.  After market bushings permitted.
Must run stock sway bar and must mount in stock location with stock mounts 1 1/8” max.
Must retain all stock steering components.
Must have working 4 wheel brakes.  No rear disk brakes unless it came factory standard equipment.
No bump-stops or suspension travel limiting devices.  No coil binding.
All rear ends must be stock for that make and model car.  And all trailing arms must be stock and be in stock OEM mounting brackets in OEM locations on chassis and rear end.  Everything unaltered and stock.
Shocks must be steel. 
No adjustable shocks, all shocks must be mounted in stock location.
Adjustable front buckets ok.
Wedge bolts in rear ok.
Rear ends may be a
positive track or mini spool or welded.
Must run a drive shaft loop.
Leaf spring cars must retain all stock frames front to rear and cannot connect frame rail underneath car.


Engines:

Maximum Cubic Inch-350 for Chevy and 351 for Ford, Maximum bore .060.
All engines must be in stock location.  Can run solid mounts.
Engines must be cast iron (block and heads). 
Cranks must be stock or OEM replacement.  Crank must weigh 50lbs or more and cannot be lightened in any way.  Can only drill holes to balanced crank.  No stroking of any kind. Stock Chevy Stroke 3.480.
Rods cannot weigh any lighter than 540 grams. (example: 5.700 inch for Chevy)
No aluminum rods or titanium.
Flat top piston 2 or 4 eyebrow.  No dome pistons.
Must run Hydraulic cam with max lift of 450, including rockers.
No rollers of any type.
Can run screw in studs and guide plates.  Stud girdles are permitted.
May run a stock type roller rocker arm 1:5 ratio.
Can run aluminum pulleys on engine and aluminum radiator.
Heads must be stock OEM heads, unaltered, 72cc and up.  No angle milling, no porting or polishing, no vortex, no double hump, no bow ties. Aftermarket heads are NOT allowed. Only stock head replacement, world products heads allowed.  Stock replacement number 43600.
1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust valve size
Stock Holley 4412 two barrel carburetor.  This WILL be gauged.  Removing of choke parts allowed
May run aluminum intake Edelbrock performer # Chevy ’86 and earlier #2701, ’87-’95, #2104, Ford 351 #3781, Chrysler #2176
 Headers allowed. 1 5/8” tube side with 3” collector and cannot run any larger than 3” pipes.  No step type headers.
May run cast iron manifolds. Deduct 50 lbs.
No Air leaks of any kind.
No MSD system or Hot boxes.  HEI distributors only.


Wheels and Tires: 

 Steel wheels only.  Maximum width 8 inches.
Tires must be Towel City recap BLUE DOT and must have the horizontal dot on tire.
No tire soaking permitted.


Transmissions:

Must run an automatic transmission.
Must have a working torque converter no smaller than 10” in diameter.
No lock up torque converters, no step torque converters.
No Direct drives.
No TCI stepped converters.
No oil coolers inside cars.


Protests:

Protest top end $500 (includes Carburetor, Intake, Cylinder Head, Camshaft, Piston Head configuration).
Protest complete Engine teardown, $1000 (includes top end plus bore, stroke, pistons, rods and crankshaft).
Protest Carburetor $150.
Protest traction control $150.
Protest Transmission $150. 


Rules may be amended throughout the year.

IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

Car Requirements:

Strictly an economy based class.  No performance modifications of any type will be allowed. All cars must retain all stock body parts front to rear and must retain stock front and rear firewalls. Must also have stock floor pans and rocker panels.
No X-ing of any cars underneath.  No excessive gutting.  If material is removed, roll cage must be put in place.  All cars must have a 4 point roll cage in the car with 4 door bars on drivers side and 3 on passenger side. Bars can run thru front and rear.
Aftermarket bumper covers must cover all bumpers and brace supports and all metal must be behind and covered by the cover.  Must run a stock-type bumper if no bumper cover is used.  Rear bumper/tail light area must be enclosed (no open tail sections).

No altering frame in any way.
Frame must remain stock, unaltered.  No cutting frame as for to shorten or widen frame.

Cars cannot be any lower than 7” at any 4 corners of the car with driver in car.
Car and driver must weigh 3400 lbs after feature.
55% left side weight max for Thunder stocks only.
No radios allowed.
No antifreeze in radiator.  A $100 penalty if caught using antifreeze.

Sway bar must be in original rubber mounts where connected to frame. No adjusting sway bar either side.  Sway bar must be stock 1 1/16” max.
Shocks must be stock Monroe or equivalent, no Bilsteins and in stock location in stock mounts.
Stock springs must be in original location.
All a-frames must remain stock and must mount in unaltered stock location.
Leaf spring cars must retain all stock frames front to rear and cannot connect frame rail underneath car.
No spring spacers in front, rear to be shimmed only.
Must retain all stock steering components.
Must have working 4-wheel brakes.  No disk brakes unless it came as standard equipment.
All rear ends must be stock for that make and model car and all trailing arms must be stock and be in stock OEM mounting brackets and in OEM locations on chassis and rear end. Everything must remain unaltered and completely stock.
Stock rear end can be locked or ran open.  No lockers or tru-tracks(stock or aftermarket) allowed.
Drive shaft loop required.
Top A-Frame bolt max 3”.


Transmission:

A stock automatic transmission with working torque converter.  No power glides, No manual or racing transmissions allowed. 

No direct drives, no lock up torque converters, no TCI transmissions.  11” diameter minimum torque converter.
No oil coolers inside car.
Drive shafts must be painted white.


Wheels and Tires:

Steel wheels only.  Maximum width 8 inches.

Tires must be Towel City recap BLUE DOT and must have the horizontal dot on tire.
No soaking tires. 


Engines:

All motors must retain all stock parts such as block, crank, rods.  Must weigh stock weight.  Crank must weigh 50lbs or more and cannot be lightened in any way.  Can only drill
holes to balanced crank.  No stroking of any kind.
Rods cannot weigh any lighter than 540 grams.
Chevy 305 & Ford 302 2 or 4 valve relief
Chevy 350 & Ford 351 4 valve relief cast type or hypereutectic stock replacement only.

Car Requirements:

4-cylinder or v-6.-no aftermarket bodies allowed.  No all Wheel drive, no all wheel steer, no trucks, no 2 seat coupes, strictly an economically based class.  No performance modifications will be allowed. V-6 must run automatic transmission.
Cars must have stock frame, stock firewall and stock floor pan.  Any openings in firewall and floor pan must be covered.  No reinforcing the body outside the driver’s ompartment. All exterior trim, including lights, body molding, mirrors, etc. must be removed.  Stock body panels and stock bumpers are to be used.  Bumpers must remain in stock position and be secured and chained so that they will not fall off if impacted.  All doors must be welded or bolted shut.  Hood must be secured with a minimum of two hood pins. All glass must be removed from the vehicle.  Front windshield may be replaced with Lexan.  If screen wire is used, a minimum of three vertical bars in front of driver at windshield opening.  No Spoilers.
All flammable interior must be removed.  Steering column and pedals must remain stock.  All air bag components must be removed.  Heating and air boxes may be removed.
Racing seat required. Must be securely bolted to a mount assembly that is part of the roll cage.  Racing belts mandatory.  All belts will be attached to roll cage.  Cars with electric fuel pump must have a master disconnect switch accessible by the driver and safety crew.  Master disconnect must be clearly labeled as such.
A full four point roll cage is required.  Minimum three door bars on driver side, two on passenger side.  Minimum ¼” plate must be welded or bolted to the outside of drivers door bars.  Doors must be welded shut.  Window net and roll bar padding is mandatory.
All 4 brakes must remain stock.  No ABS or traction control allowed, all ABS sensors must be disabled.
No radio communication allowed.
A complete exhaust must be in place completely under the vehicle.  No portion of exhaust may pass through interior and must exit under vehicle behind the driver at rear. Remover of catalytic converter is allowed. May run stock header or stock replacement header with shield.
No antifreeze in radiator.  A $100 penalty if caught using antifreeze.
Standard or automatic transmission allowed.  Clutch must be stock and flywheel must not be lightened.
Motors must be stock only. Absolutely NO engine modifications. Engine must be stock for the car that it is in. No turbos or superchargers.  Stock intake manifold must be used with no modifications. Removal of smog, emission , air conditioning and power steering parts are permitted.  Absolutely NO engine modifications. Can run a cold air intake air filter system.
DOT approved passenger tires only.  No “made for racing” tires, no low profile tires.  All tires must be all season radials.  Tires can be 13, 14, or 15” max. They can be 75, 70, 65 or 60 series. A maximum of 7-inch width for 15” wheels and 6 ½ for 14” wheels.  All four tires and wheels must be the same size, series and offset.  NO stagger allowed.  Racing wheels allowed must be centered with no offsets..  No spacers allowed behind wheels.  Can run aluminum wheels.
Only OEM style shocks, struts, springs allowed.  No progressive rate spring.  No heating or cutting springs allowed.  A maximum of 2” of camber measure 90 degrees of tire will be allowed, right front only. A ¼” right rear only.  No modifications of existing parts.  All suspension parts must remain factory.


Protests:

$400 for top half and $800 for everything else.

2014 2-Seat Cruiser Class

The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.   NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.

 The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF

Car Requirements:

Front or Rear wheel drive Cars, Trucks, Vans allowed. 

V-6 or V-8 with or w/o fuel injection.  No changing of injectors.  Must be stock OEM.
No excessive gutting but remove all flammable material.
No gutting of trunk.
Only gutting will be on door for roll cage only.
Loop bar with 3 kickers minimum.  May run a 4 point roll cage.
Must run door plate on both sides if no full roll cage is installed.
Stock Steering column, stock or removable steering wheel.
Window Net mandatory both sides.
May use stock tank or fuel cell but you may not gut trunk, cell must sit on existing trunk.
Must have fire extinguisher.
Racing seat and seat belts recommended for both seats.
May use stock seats and stock seatbelts.
All glass must be removed, front glass must be replaced with lexan or screen.
Dash may be either in or out.
Motor must be stock that came out with that car.
Must be same size wheels and tires for that car make and model.
No stagger, all 4 wheels must be same size.
No positive traction, limited slip, or lock up devices.
Must run a stock gear for that make and model.


Claim Rule:

Whole car $800.  To make a claim, you must run in the same class and must be done within 10 minutes of the end of feature race and your car must be forfeited  to the person you are claiming so that person is not left without a car.

Car being claimed must have 2 feature wins and claimer must have finished in top 5 to be eligible to claim another top 5 car. Claimer must have finished on the lead lap.
If car being claimed refuses, they lose all points and winnings for that night.  2nd time refusing must sit out 2 weeks.
