2016 General Rules


The rules and/or regulations set forth herin are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These rules shall govern the conditions of all events, and my participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATIONS OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.  The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS. Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.


You are expected to follow the rules and ignorance of the rules will not be accepted as an excuse.  We are committed to bring professionalism and orderly conduct to Kentucky Motor Speedway.  Furthermore, if it doesn't say it, you can't do it.


1.  NO Drugs or Alcohol are allowed in pit area.

2.  Respect for Track officials and other competitors are expected at all times.  No verbal or physical assaults or threats will be tolerated.

3.  All persons entering pit area shall sign in at pit gate.

4.  Reckless driving in pit area is prohibited. 

5. All cars must be equipped with a 2 lb fire extinguisher. 

6.  All weight must be securly mounted and painted white with car number on it.  There will be $100 fine if weight is lost out of car.  No tungsten or similar weight is allowed.

7.  Driver may not exit car on the track to discuss a situation with anyone.  Violation of this rule WILL result in disqualification for the remainder of the race and a suspension may be accessed if deemed appropriate by track officials.

8.  Upon admittance to a restricted area, all participants must conduct themselves in a manner not detrimental to racing.  Profanity in front of the race fans, officials, management, profane signs or writing on cars, etc., will not be tolerated and may subject the offending party to penalties.  ​Conduct in Social Media deemed detrimental to KMS and/or its sponsors may subject the driver or team to penalties such as fines and could result in immediate to indefinite suspension.  

9. Drivers are responsible for the actions of their crew and family members in the pit area or grandstands.

10. Any driver who intentionally causes a caution condition, without safety being an issue, by stopping, spinning, or any other action, is subject to a 2 lap penalty.

11. All fines and protest monies must be paid in cash, no coins!

​12. All purse winnings will be held in the pit office for 2 weeks only!

13. KMS reserves the right to check anything on any car at any time!  All cars must meet the requirements at all times.

14.  KMS is private property.  Persons caught vandalizing will be prosecuted.  Any person on the property without permission will be considered trespassing and subject to legal action.  Through the pruchase of your pit pass or grandstand ticket and paying the admission fee, you are considered having permission to be on the property.  However, we reserve the right to revoke and cancel this permission at any time that your presence or conduct is not in the best interest of racing, to spectators, officials of this facility.

15. All driver changes must be reported to the track officials prior to the start of the race.  Points and payout monies will be given to the driver on record of the car.  No exceptions!

16. Drivers driving in multiple divisions must purchase a pit entry fee times the number of divisions in which the driver is driving.

17. Any person entering pit are who has failed to purchase a pit pass is trespassing and will be subject to suspension, as well as legal action.

18. All firearms and other weapons are prohibitied on track property

19. If a driver ot their family or crew enters another person's pit area or approaches another person's car and an altercation ensues, the party which left their pit area will be deemed at fault.

20. Decisions of the scoring officials are final.  If you believe a scoring error has occurred in the final rundown, you must see scoring at the end of the race night.

21. All points races will be counted towards end of year championship banquet.  Drivers must be present at banquet to receive championship awards and monies.

2016 Pure Stock Class

Car Requirements:

1. Front or Rear wheel drive Cars, Trucks, Vans allowed. 
2. Loop bar with 3 kickers minimum.  
3. Must run door plate on both sides if no full roll cage is installed.
4. Window Net mandatory both sides.
5. Must have fire extinguisher.
6.. Racing seat recommended.
7. 4 point seat belts mandatory.
8. All glass must be removed, front glass must be replaced with lexan or screen.
9. No positive traction, limited slip, or lock up devices. Rear end must be open rear end only.

10. Dot tires only.


  2016 Sportsman Division

 The race director shall be empowered to permit reasonable and appropriate deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his/her opinion does not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials. Their decision is final.


Chassis/Base Weight:

1. Cars must utilize a street-type American made chassis (1965 or newer). 105” min wheelbase.
2. 3100 lbs. base weight minimum at all times, including after race with driver (no refueling after race). Max left side weight  is 57.0% at all times.
3. Races longer than 50 laps will have a 1 lb per lap over 50 laps allowance
4. Cars must utilize factory frame sections from the front steering box mount to rear of rear spring pocket. No widening of the frame in any way. The cross member must remain the OEM stock component and in OEM location but may be modified for oil pan or fuel pump clearance. Weight Jacks OK. Leaf Spring cars must  have prior tech approval for rear suspension chassis construction.
5. Roll cages must not be offset and must be perimeter type. Installation is subject to technical approval. The width of the top roll cage bars (halo) must be a min. of 75% of the width of frame rails where the cage attaches. The cage must go straight up the doors before a slight angle into the roofline. Side plate on driver's door  must be used and must be a minimum of 12" high, post to post, 1/4" thick and either be welded to the cage or fastened with six 1/2" bolts. A min. of 3 windshield protection bars (min. 1/4" wide round stock) in front of driver are mandatory.
6. No cage or body support may run through the body or windshield.


Transmission:

1. Standard Automatic transmissions w/ working torque converter... or an OEM manual transmission and min. 7.25” clutch.
2. An aftermarket transmission with a 7.25" external clutch may be used with 75 pound penalty.
3. Clutch must be a min. of 7.25". No slipper or centrifugal clutches allowed.  No carbon fiber or non standard material clutches.
4. All transmissions must have working reverse gear.
5. Drive shaft loop required.


Suspension:

1. No Bump-Stops or suspension tn travel limiting devices. No coil binding.
2. No aftermarket lower A-Frames (O. E. M. mounting towers only).
3. No aftermarket or made for racing spindles Must be OEM style spindle.
4. Standard aftermarket upper A-Frames may be used with a 35 lbs penalty (O.E.M. mounting towers only).
5. No aftermarket trailing arms (Single, non adjustable chassis mounting point only).
6. 3-links allowed. Lower trailing arms must be same length both sides.  Top link max 30" center to center.  Must be solid or rubber type.  No torque links.  Must add 50lbs for 3 link.
7. One shock per wheel. Shock must be steel, economy-type, may not be externally adjustable and may not be gas re-chargeable.
    SHOCKS MUST ALSO BE ON A SERIES APPROVED LIST TO BE LEGAL!!! LIST IS PUBLISHED AT CRA-RACING.COM.
8. Ford 9 inch rear ends OK. No Quick-change rear ends.
9. Max 78" tread width from outside to outside of tire at spindle height.
10.Stick-type, steel brake calipers only. Brake caliper may not be of a floating design and must be mounted solidly to rear end housing. Must have working brakes on all four wheels.
11. Stock-type sway bars only. Maximum 1.25" diameter and must be mounted, on the chassis side, forward of the steering box.


Wheels and Tires: 


1. Maximum 8" wide steel wheels only.
2. Track tire only.  Hoosier Comanche's
3. No soaking tires or softening permitted.

4. Must start race on tires used for qualifying.


 Engine:

1. Engine must be cast iron (block & heads). No Dry Sumps.
2. Use of Roller Cams/Lifters is discouraged and therefore any team NOT using them may deduct 50 lbs.
3. Heads must be standard valve angle (23 degrees Chevrolet). No shaft mounted rockers.
4. Aluminum intake may be used with a 50 pound penalty.
5. Headers may be used with a 25 pound penalty (no 180's). 
6. Engines under 365 c.i. may deduct 50 lbs.
7. Engines over 412 c.i. must add 50 lbs.
8. Engine must be located so the spark plug of forward most cylinder is no further back than 1 inch of center-line of the upper ball joints.
9. Exhaust must exit behind the driver and beneath car of under frame. 
10. Two of Four barrel carburetors only, but NO dual-line, rear metering block, or double-pump carburetors. No demon carbs.  one spacer plate or adapter not to exceed 1 1/4 inches with gaskets.


Body:

 1. No compact or sub compact bodies. Standard Chevelle, Nova, Monte Carlo, Regal, Cutlass, and older Camaro bodies allowed as well as their Ford and Dodge counterparts. 

2. Aftermarket bodies allowed. However, additional weight may be added for non-stock appearing bodies.

3. A stock floor pan is required. An aftermarket firewall may be used, but must be steel and similar gauge of the replaced stock firewall.
4. Aftermarket bumper covers must cover all bumpers and brace supports and all metal must be behind and covered by the cover. Must run a stock-type bumper if no bumper-over is used. Rear bumper/tail-light area must be enclosed (no open tail sections).
5. Nose-piece must be mounted with stock body line in mind. Nose-piece should not be chopped, lowered, or angled.
6. Rooflines must have stock appearance ("Chopped Roofs" may result in additional weight penalty).
7. Minimum roof height with standard roof rake is 48 inches.
8. Body, exhaust, rocker panels or any other mounted items must be no closer to the ground than 4 inches. 

9. Rub rails may only be used if they are polycarbonate.

2016 Street Stock Division

Car Requirements:

1. Minimum wheel base 108”
2. Frames must be OEM.  No boxing or bending to alter frame.
3. No x-ing frame underneath period.
4. Engine must be centered on chasis side to side.  Engine must be in stock location.
5. Aftermarket bumper covers must cover all bumpers and brace supports and all metal must be behind and covered by the cover.  Must run a stock-type bumper if no bumper cover is used.  Rear bumper/tail light area must be enclosed (no open tail sections).  No louvers or holes allowed.

6. Must remove all glass and flammable material from the car.
7. Leaf spring cars must retain all stock frames front to rear and cannot connect frame rail underneath car.
8. No altering frame in any way.
9. Frame must remain stock, unaltered.  No cutting frame as for to shorten or widen frame.
10. Racing belts and window nets are mandatory.
11. Racing seat and fuel cells are mandatory.
12. Cars cannot be any lower than 6” at any 4 corners of the car with driver in car.
13. Car and driver must weigh 3400 lbs after feature.
14. 55% left side weight max.
15. All cars must have a 4 point roll cage in the car with 4 door bars on driver’s side and 3 on passenger side. Bars can run thru front and rear.
16. No radios allowed.
17. No antifreeze allowed.  A $100 penalty if caught using antifreeze.

18. LEAD must be mounted with a minimum of two (2) 1/2 inch bolts. All weights are to be painted white with the car # painted on each piece. Any driver that
looses any lead from his car will be fined $250 payable prior to any further competition. This rule is in effect during race day or practice days.


Suspension:

1. Factory OEM lower front control arms only.  All A-frames upper and lower must remain stock for that make and model car and must mount in unaltered stock location.

1a: Tubular upper control arms allowed.  Must be sheel shaft, no aluminum shafts allowed.  Must be within 2 inches in length side to side.  No adjustable shafts of a- arms allowed.  Must bolt to stock, unaltered perch.

2. Non adjustable replacement ball joints only.  After market bushings permitted.
3. Must run stock sway bar and must mount in stock location with stock mounts 1 1/8” max.
4. Must retain all stock steering components.
5. Must have working 4 wheel brakes.  No rear disk brakes unless it came factory standard equipment.
6. No bump-stops or suspension travel limiting devices.  No coil binding.
7. All rear ends must be stock for that make and model car.  And all trailing arms must be stock and be in stock OEM mounting brackets in OEM locations on chassis and rear end.. Everything unaltered and stock.
8. Shocks must be steel. No adjustable shocks, all shocks must be mounted in stock location.
9. Adjustable front buckets ok.
10. Wedge bolts in rear ok.
11. Rear ends may be a positive track or mini spool or welded.
12. Must run a drive shaft loop.
13. Leaf spring cars must retain all stock frames front to rear and cannot connect frame rail underneath car.


Engines:

1. Maximum Cubic Inch-350 for Chevy and 351 for Ford, Maximum bore .060.
2. All engines must be in stock location.  Can run solid mounts.
3. Engines must be cast iron (block and heads). 
4. Cranks must be stock or OEM replacement.  Crank must weigh 50lbs or more and cannot be lightened in any way.  Can only drill holes to balanced crank.  No stroking of any kind. Stock Chevy Stroke 3.480.
5. Rods cannot weigh any lighter than 540 grams. (example: 5.700 inch for Chevy)
6. No aluminum rods or titanium.
7. Flat top piston 2 or 4 eyebrow.  No dome pistons.
8. Must run Hydraulic cam with max lift of 450, including rockers.
9. No rollers of any type.
10. Can run screw in studs and guide plates.  Stud girdles are permitted.
11. May run a stock type rocker arm 1:5 ratio.
12. Can run aluminum pulleys on engine and aluminum radiator.
13. Heads must be stock OEM heads, unaltered, 72cc and up.  No angle milling, no porting or polishing, no vortex, no double hump, no bow ties. Aftermarket heads are NOT allowed. Only stock head replacement, world products heads allowed.  Stock replacement number 43600.
14. 1.94 intake and 1.5 exhaust valve size

     2.041 intake and 1.546 exhaust valve size for Ford Windson

     2.041 intake and 1.655 exhaust valve size for Ford Cleveland

     1.920 intake and 1.624 exhaust valve for Cheysler
15. Stock Holley 4412 two barrel carburetor.  This WILL be gauged.  Removing of choke parts allowed

16. Adapter plate maximum 1" thick ith 2 holes not to exceed 1.700.  No tapering

17. One paper gasket above and below spacer not to exceed 0.060 thickness.
18. May run aluminum intake Edelbrock performer # Chevy ’86 and earlier #2701, ’87-’95, #2104, Ford 351 #3781, Chrysler #2176
19. Headers allowed. 1 5/8” tube side with 3” collector and cannot run any larger than 3” pipes.  No step type headers.
20. May run cast iron manifolds. Deduct 50 lbs. No Bow ties.
21. No Air leaks of any kind.
22. No MSD system or Hot boxes.  HEI distributors only.

23. No air boxes, no air dams, ram air duct systems permitted.  Only one air cleaner element permitted and all air must pass through air filter.  Paper of reusable filters permitted with no alterations.


Wheels and Tires: 

1. Steel wheels only.  Maximum width 8 inches.
2. Tires must be Towel City recap Blue Dot 15" x 8" 89 compound or Comanche
3. No tire soaking or softening permitted.

4. Must start race on tires used for qualifying.


Transmissions:

1. Must run an automatic transmission.
2. Must have a working torque converter no smaller than 10” in diameter.
3. No lock up torque converters, no step torque converters.
4. No Direct drives.
5. No TCI stepped converters.
6. No oil coolers inside cars.


Protests:

Protest top end $500 (includes Carburetor, Intake, Cylinder Head, Camshaft, Piston Head configuration).
Protest complete Engine teardown, $1000 (includes top end plus bore, stroke, pistons, rods and crankshaft).
Protest Carburetor $150.
Protest traction control $150.
Protest Transmission $150. 


Rules may be amended throughout the year.

2016 we will be following the rules for the VORES CTS Compact Touring Series as they are very similar to ours.  We only add the following exceptions:


DOT approved passenger tires.  50 Series and up.  Tires can be 13, 14, 15, or 16" max.  Tread wear no less than 200.


NO antifreeze in radiator.  $100 penalty if caught using antifreeze.


NO radio's allowed.


After 3 wins in a row, must add 50 lbs.
